My paintings are a pragmatic record of wandering created to evoke a sense of adventure and exploration. Landscapes, structures and paths on desert expeditions capture my interest.
Time has left its mark on natural and man-made structures in the desert; I collect this imagery. Imparted with a subjective ability to observe things commonly overlooked, I use this imagery as part of the source material in my paintings.
I layer color stripes and/or partial structures in the foreground - boundaries that create an entrance for the viewer to access my setting. Upon entrance, the viewer will find a complete or partial structure to explore. Common objects are renewed as visual symbols in my work; they
become part of my personal vocabulary that in time the viewer will be able to define. Occasionally, I use text to include the viewer in my personal thoughts, like recording the actual time, date, place or weather conditions. My future work will investigate the added concepts of remote paths and
alternating trails.
